<p> DIED. Alberto Moravia, 82, the last of this century's
celebrated Italian authors; in Rome. Born Alberto Pincherle, he
became Italy's best-selling author since Dante, with 49 books
translated into 37 languages. His two best-selling books dealt
with war and women: 1947's La Romana (The Woman of Rome) and
1957's La Ciociara, which was turned into the movie Two Women,
starring Sophia Loren.
